Sue Ann Thomas of Ormond Beach, FL passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at the age of 70. She leaves behind her loving husband of 43 years, David R. Thomas, III. She is survived by her 3 children, David Randall Thomas, Kristen Dawn Pirkey, Jason Scott Thomas (wife, Roxanne), along with 2 step children, David Raymond Thomas, IV (wife, Kerry) and Heather Michelle Thomas.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Thomas and Mary Schroeder and her brother, Thomas Schroeder.
She leaves behind nine grandchildren, Jaquelyn Thomas, Kelsey Thomas, Alexandra Penaherrera, David Thomas, V, Savanna Thomas, Isabelle Koslin, Jamie Thomas, Avonelle Thomas and Parker Thomas.
Sue, was born in Columbus, Ohio and moved to Daytona Beach, Florida when she was in elementary school. She attended local schools and graduated from Seabreeze High School in 1965. While in high school she was involved in many activities, including Seabreeze Marching 100 all four years. She was a JV cheerleader as a freshman and a sophomore and a majorette as a senior. She was also a member of Keyettes, Latin Club, French Club and the National Honor Society. Sue made many lifelong friends in high school who throughout the years, have gathered annually to celebrate their continued friendships.
After graduating in 1965, she attended Daytona State College where she received her Nursing Degree. After working in many different areas in the nursing field, she became a Hospice Nurse for Hospice of Volusia/Flagler where she spent the remainder of her career until her retirement.
Sue loved travelling with her husband. Their travels took them to home and away FSU Football games enjoying tailgating and travelling with their now, lifelong friends. She also enjoyed spending their summers at their home in Blowing Rock, NC where they loved hosting friends and family. When they were not in North Carolina they enjoyed travelling throughout the United States, including extensive travels out west.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Lohman’s Funeral Home located at 733 W. Granada Blvd, Ormond Beach, FL 32174. Social gathering begins at 1:00pm and a service will be held at 2:00pm. Following the service, an extended celebration of life will be held at home of David and Kerry Thomas at 87 Deep Woods Way, Ormond Beach, FL.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Halifax Health Hospice in Honor of Sue A. Thomas.
