Curtis Maxwell Duff

February 3, 1932 - December 9, 2017

Curtis M. Duff, age 85 (of DeLand, Florida) loving husband, father and friend, entered into eternal rest on December 9, 2017, after a courageous thirty-three year battle with heart disease.

Curtis was born on February 3, 1932, in Charleston, West Virginia, to the late Albert S. Duff and Allie Miller Duff. He was the youngest child and last survivor of fifteen siblings. In addition to being predeceased by his parents, brothers and sisters, he was also preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Constance Duff. Curtis is survived by his devoted wife, Ann; three children: Curtis E. Duff of Charleston, WV; Karen Haddad-Piccone of Sarasota, FL; and Valerie Lucas (Terry) of Morgantown, WV; one granddaughter, Amanda Fernandez (Patrick) of Hurricane, WV; two great grandchildren, Preston and Peyton; and brother-in-law, Tom W. Bacorn of Buckhannon, WV. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. To cherish fond memories, he leaves very special friends: Nancy and David Martin (Sunset, SC); Kenneth and Gail Irvine (Ormond Beach, FL); and Don and Janet Powell (DeLand, FL).

Curtis was a graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School, class of 1950, and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in business administration from Morris Harvey College. He was a resident of Florida since 1973 and of DeLand, FL, since 1983. Curtis was a member of Lake Helen United Methodist Church. His career included: Manager for Kroger’s Supermarket, Charleston, WV; Educational Sales for J. S. Latta, Inc., Huntington, WV; Youth Counselor for Florida Department of Youth Services; and Parole/Probation Officer and Supervisor for Florida Department of Corrections for twenty-three years. Before and after his retirement in 1997, he was a long-time volunteer for Volusia County Schools. He also volunteered for Outside the Gates Food Pantry at LHUMC.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday December 14, 2017 at Lohman Funeral Home, DeLand, 935 East New York Avenue, DeLand, FL 32724 with the Reverend Kenneth R. Irvine officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM with service to follow at 2:00 PM. A private interment will be at DeLand Memorial Gardens. Because he was a long-time advocate for children and youth, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Curtis’s memory to: Florida United Methodist Children’s Home, 51 Children’s Way, Enterprise, FL 32725.
