Obituary for William E. "Bill" Crooks Jr.
Bill Crooks, 82 a resident of South Daytona and New Smyrna Beach passed away peacefully on Sunday October 8th after a short but courageous battle with esophageal cancer. Bill passed with both his loving companion and son by his side, and was welcomed into Heaven with these words from Jesus, “ Son, your faith has healed you, come in peace and be freed of your suffering” (Mark 5:34) Bill was born in Greenville, S.C. to William and Lula Crooks. He was a graduate of Greenville High School and later attended Furman College. He also proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Bill had an entrepreneurial spirit and owned a variety of businesses, including service stations, tire stores, real estate rentals and more, but was best known for his great sense of humor and quick wit. He was at his happiest whenever he was near or on a river. Bill will be missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing him. Those he leaves behind to cherish his memory include his dear companion for the past 48 years, Elaine York, His son Bill (Christine) Largo, his daughter Kathleen (Ken) Hale, and his grandchildren Christine, Joshua and Hannah Largo, and Zachariah, Isaiah, Elijah, and Demetria Hale. He will also be missed by his beloved dog, Prinsey. A Funeral Service will be held for Bill on Friday, October 13th at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona at 1:30 in the afternoon, with a gathering of family and friends beginning at 12:30.
